The Bishop of Bolton Manchester England claims Halloween masks promote evil and fear in his community. Rt Reverend Dvid Gillet is calling for the dark and negative masks to be replaced by fairies, cute animals, and bright face paint. He said I share the view of many christians that large retailers are increasingly keen to commercialise Halloween celebrations in a way that pressurises parents to purchase goods that promote the dark, negative side of halloween and could encourage anti-social behaviour.
I worry that Halloween trivialises the realities of evil in the world and that occult practisces should not be condoned, even if they are only being presented in a caricatured lighthearted form. The Bishop inteneds to show his alternative masks at his local Asda store in Hulme Manchester.

It's true! Some people take this celebration a bit too far. I mean, when I was a kid, the decorations would scare me to death. Even though I knew it was halloween, the masks and costumes just terrified me. Nowadays, some people set up graveyards in their front yards, hang up artificial spider webs all over the trees, bushes, and doors, making everything appear dreadful. For a kid, I think this can be quite traumatizing.

What a load of rubbish. The church wants the monopoly on darkness and evil with its threats of damnation to hell. They're just jealous of the retailers because they do a better job. The church should just give up. Then we can go after the killjoys on the other side, that is, the promoters of political correctness. Once they're taken down, we can all celebrate holidays in peace once more.

Yep, we have decorations in the window here. Not sure if we have our skeleton hung up yet or our ghost that's supposed to electronically moan and shake about when activated. We have our talking animated crow atop the TV which doubles as a candy dish for ourselves, but since our son will eat any candy he sees, it won't be filled until the actual day. We have goodie bags ready to hand out to any little goblins what darken our door, although we just have about half a dozen since kid traffic is scarce in our neighborhood. Best thing is we have lots of horror-type audio that I've downloaded and burned to CD so the fiancee can listen to things whilst she works on this or that project in the kitchen. I've got here some dollar DVDs, double features, with all kinds of low-budget spooky flicks on them. Can't see the visual bits so have to use the good old imagination.

I agree the bible is choc full of violence hatred and evil. Let the kiddies enjoy Halloween and enjoy being scared.

Agreed wholeheartedly with post three.

If that's true, and perhaps it is, then the poor kids in my community have nothing to worry about since they make their own costumes out of whatever material is lying around in the house. But as things are going in the world, I don't think halloween will be around in ten years.

well i think it's over rated anyway. can't stand it lol. i just ignore the little buggers coming to my door purely because you never know what their intent is these days. and how the hell can parents even allow their kids to go out unsupervised? it's funny how they always want to cry foul play when 1 of their kids gets attacked and abused or what ever, yes it's sad. but jesus christ if those kids were escorted by their parents on such things, then firstly that would be greatly reduced, secondly you won't get the little shits being blatently nasty and doing crap.
